Luke 9:23

Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up YOUR cross daily, and follow me.

This is one verse that really stands out to me when I read between the lines. God says for us to take up our cross daily. When I first read it I though oh he's just saying crosses because he's trying to get us to relate to him. That isn't it at all. The cross in this situation isn't the two planks of wood made to look like a t. It's much bigger than that.

When we think of the cross we think of the cute thing we use to accessorize. For God, the cross was the most painful and uncomfortable memory on earth. This verse explains how he is telling us to literally carry the most painful and uncomfortable memory/problem we have, every day. These problems are the things that keep us back from following him. I choose today to carry my cross of depression and anxiety high and follow God, no matter how painful and hard it may seem. So I ask you this, what is YOUR cross?

Luke 9:24-25
If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed?

Will you choose to let that cross bring you down and keep you in pain and discomfort, or are you going carry it with pride? Soon the cross will be dragged so long that it will slowly grind down to nothing, and you will truly feel free.

I pray that you slap that cross across your back and get ready to follow God. He's there, waiting for you and ready to help you when that cross seems too heavy because he's been there. When you feel its to heavy don't complain, thank God because he made you strong enough to carry it. Soon enough it will be worn down to nothing and you will come out truly VICTORIOUS!

xoxo,

Shelby
